V Krishnamurthy, Former SAIL Chairman Passes Away At 97

The seasonal leader, V Krishnamurthy, was the head of SAIL from 1985 to 1990.

New Delhi: At the age of 97, V Krishnamurthy passed away on Sunday in Chennai. He served as the former chairman of the steel PSU SAIL and Maruti Udyog Ltd (now Maruti Suzuki).

According to a SAIL statement on Twitter, Mr. Krishnamurthy passed away at his home in Chennai, as reported by one of his former coworkers. On Monday, his last performance will be performed by his family.

From 1985 until 1990, V Krishnamurthy served as the chairman of SAIL.

“SAIL family deeply mourns the sad demise of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Venkataraman Krishnamurthy, ex-Chairman, SAIL, on 26th June 2022,” it said.

SAIL said that he served as the chairman of several other PSUs. The seasoned professional also served as chairman of GAIL, Maruti Udyog, and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.

Mr. Krishnamurthy was praised by Maruti Suzuki India Chairman RC Bhargava as an exceptional leader and visionary, under whose direction the whole Maruti Udyog project was completed and a completely new Japanese work culture was adopted in India.

In his statement, Mr Bhargava said Krishnamurthy was “responsible for my moving from civil services to the industry. Had it not for him I would have remained in administration only.”

TVS chairman Venu Srinivasan said, “Dr. V. Krishnamurthy was my mentor right from the time I started work and right through my entire career. He had an important role to play in helping me build the TVS MOTOR company.”
