Vedanta-Foxconn Chooses Gujarat Over Maharashtra To Set Up Semi Conductor Plant Worth Rs 1.54 Lakh Cr

Gujarat

“My deep gratitude to the Gujarat Govt and the Union IT Minister, who have helped Vedanta tie things up so quickly. India’s tech ecosystem will thrive, with every state benefiting via the new electronics manufacturing hubs.”

New Delhi: To create a robust manufacturing base in India, Vedanta-Foxconn has chosen Gujarat as the destination for their semiconductor plant, Vedanta group chairman Anil Agarwal said.

A memorandum of understanding was signed with the state government for setting up the semiconductor plant costing around Rs 1.54 lakh crore. “History gets made! Happy to announce that the new Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor plant will be set up in #Gujarat. Vedanta’s landmark investment of Rs 1.54 lakh crores will help make India’s #Atmanirbhar Silicon Valley a reality,” Agarwal said in a series of tweets.

This project, which is expected to reduce India’s electronic imports besides providing 1 lakh direct skilled jobs, will help the country’s manufacturing sector, he said in another tweet.

“My deep gratitude to the Gujarat Govt and the Union IT Minister, who have helped Vedanta tie things up so quickly. India’s tech ecosystem will thrive, with every state benefiting via the new electronics manufacturing hubs.”

India’s own Silicon Valley is a step closer now, the Vedanta Chairman tweeted.
“India will fulfil the digital needs of not just her people, but also those from across the seas. The journey from being a Chip Taker to a Chip Maker has officially begun…Jai Hind!,” he tweeted.

Responding to the tweet, Aaditya Thackeray has expressed shock over the change of location for the plant, that the Uddhav Thackeray lead MVA goverment had bought to Maharashtra and was set to be in the state.”

“Ind Minister @Subhash_Desai ji,@midc_india and I held meetings fr bringing this semiconductor project to Maharashtra. For a project almost finalized, and a new dispensation claiming credit over it, only shows lack of commitment from the new dispensation for our State’s progress, “Maharashtra’s former environment minister said.”

“However I wish the industry and the company well. It’s success will lead to a new horizon opening up for India. Under the MVA, our effort was to make Maharashtra, the lead state contributor to India’s progress, just like other states in a healthy competition,” Mr. Thackeray said in a subsequent tweet.

Besides, Shiv Sena spokesperson, Priyanka Chaturvedi also echoed junior Thackeray’s views in her tweet.

“MVA Industries Minister Sh. Subhash Desai ji & Environment Minister Sh Aaditya Thackeray had initiated the discussion upto the final stage. The government fell and the ‘ED’ sarkar claimed credit for it & used it for PR news in July. Now in September handed it over to Gujarat.”
