Mumbai: Amid the ongoing row over Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks over Savarkar, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction leader, Sanjay Raut praised him for showing  “humanity” and concern for a political colleague, despite being busy with his Yatra. Rahul Gandhi had called him and showed concern about his health.

Sanjay Raut today while speaking with reporters said, “Rahul Gandhi is extremely busy in Bharat Jodo Yatra. Still, he called me last night and asked if I was doing well after I was released on bail from jail. We spoke very politely on the phone call. Rahul Gandhi said since now you are out on bail we will work together now.”

Speaking of the current political situation and row over Rahul Gandhi’s Savarkar remarks Raut said despite differences Rahul Gandhi is still maintaining their friendship. He said, “People like Rahul Gandhi despite of many differences still maintain the friendship and love. Due to his polite behavior the nation is supporting his Bharat Jodo Yatra.”

He added, “In my political career I have worked with many political leaders, but hardly few like Rahul Gandhi have shown concern about my health.”

Raut took to Twitter and praised Rahul Gandhi, “Inspite of strong differences of opinion on some issues, inquiring on your political colleague is a sign of humanity! During his busy schedule of #BharatjodoYatra, Rahul ji Gandhi called yest’day to inquire abt my health. “We were worried for you” he said. I appreciate his empathy of feeling the pain of a political colleague who has spent 110 days in jail. In d times of political bitterness, such gestures are becoming rare. Rahulji is focusing on love & compassion in his yatra and hence it is getting a massive response.”

After Team Thackeray hinted at a breakup of the ideologically divided Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance over the “insult” to a Maharashtra icon, Rahul Gandhi’s gesture and the Sena leader’s shout-out signified reconciliation.

Rahul Gandhi raked up Veer Savarkar again and alleged that he betrayed leaders like M.K Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel by signing a letter of apology to the British before independence.

Addressing the media on November 17 during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi said, “Veer Savarkar, in a letter written to the British, said “Sir, I beg to remain your most obedient servant” and signed on it. Savarkar helped the British. He betrayed leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel by signing the letter out of fear.” Hitting out at the BJP, the Congress leader said that the youth are not being given the assurance of getting jobs.

“I see two big problems- youths don’t have the assurance of getting jobs and farmers don’t get support from anywhere. The third is interlinked- people are paying for education and health as govt schools, colleges and hospitals are shutting, so where is the money going?” he said.
