As India completes 75 years of Independence, Space Kidz India unfurled the Indian flag 30 kilometres above the planet. The flag was carried by a balloon to an altitude of 1,06,000 feet above the planet. The unfurling of a flag in space was a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav event, under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate the historic anniversary.

On the occasion of India’s 76th Independence Day, Indian-American astronaut Raja Chari greeted the people of the country by posting a photo of the Indian national flag at the International Space Station (ISS) with a message for Indians living abroad.
The image also shows Earth in the background. Mr. Chari recently returned home after a six-month mission at the ISS. He was among the four astronauts aboard a Space X spacecraft that safely splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico, earlier in the month of May.
On Indian Independence eve I’m reminded of Indian diaspora that I could see from @Space_Station where my immigrant father’s home town of Hyderabad shines bright. @nasa is just 1 place Indian Americans make a difference every day.
