Watch: Late Night Protests By Aarey Activists

The hearing regarding the Aarey tree felling matter in the apex court which was expected to be headed by a bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud today has been postponed,sources said.

Mumbai: Save Aarey activists in large numbers gathered near Aarey Picnic point to protest against the alleged cutting of trees on Thursday late night.

Around 100 people were part of the sit-in which started at 8:30 PM and lasted till 11:15 PM.

When HW News asked about why a change in the schedule of the protest which was initially decided to be at 11:00 Am on Sunday the protestors claimed they have gathered to stop the cutting of trees which is illegal when the matter is yet to be heard in the Supreme court.

According to sources, The police had multiple times announced the protestors to vacate the place as prior permission is expected before a protest is arranged, however, the protestors did not move even after the police assured of trees not being trimmed. Later one of the activists who has been a part of the moment since 2019 appealed to the protestors to leave the site and soon the crowd dispersed.

Earlier in the day Save Aarey protestors were once again detained by the police on Thursday. According to sources around 15 to 20 people were detained by the police. This was the second time in the week that activists were detained.

Sources say activists had gathered near the car shed site and were protesting against the cutting of trees.

However soon the police freed the protestors.
