A video has emerged from Northern state of Uttar Pradesh in which locals were seen abusing and harassing three Muslim fakirs.
Muslim fakirs (religious men) begging for alms is a common sight in India. However, recently, a video has emerged from Northern state of Uttar Pradesh in which locals were seen abusing and harassing three Muslim fakirs. The development comes amid huge uproar in Gulf countries over the Prophet remarks by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. The video is being shared widely on social media, with claims of deteriorating situation in India for minorities.
The police have said that one of the perpetrators has been arrested.
The video was reportedly shot on phone in the Degur village of Gonda area. The video shows the Fakirs being chased by the boys, who shout out abuses linked to religion. Some call out “beat them”.
Another man is heard shouting, “They wear the clothes of sadhus but they will eat biriyani with this money.”
The video further shows a young man, holding a large stick, then accosting the men and demand their identification cards. When they said they do not have any identification, he calls them “jihadis” and “terrorists”.
“Just show us your Aadhaar, or we will thrash the stuffing out of you,” the young man is heard saying, as he goes on to ask their names and where they come from. He repeatedly questions why the fakirs weren’t carrying Aadhaar. “All of you are terrorists… Carry your Aadhaar at all times,” he is heard saying.
In this video, a man is seen trying to pacify the situation and calm the man down, However, he is pushed away.
