Indore: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone of 5 national highway projects. Addressing the event he apologized to people for poor road conditions in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla. In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet,  Gadkari is the minister for road transport and highways. Gadkari’s apology was followed by applause from the crowd.

The road projects for which the BJP leader laid the foundation stone are worth 1,261 crores. “If there is a mistake… one should apologize. Part of the road stretch from Mandla to Jabalpur – a two-lane project from Barela to Mandla – is being built at the cost of 400 crores but I am not satisfied with it,” he said. His words were followed by applause from the audience.

He said that he has ordered a new tender so that the work is completed as soon as possible. “You are facing difficulties. I have spoken to the authorities in this matter. Whatever work is left would be suspended after a mutual discussion and the work done previously will be repaired,” he said.

During his visit to Madhya Pradesh, Gadkari inaugurated 13 road projects costing 5315 crore in the districts of Jabalpur and Mandla. In Jabalpur, he unveiled eight road projects totaling 214 kilometres and costing 4,054 crores. Shivraj Chouhan welcomed the union minister and urged the centre to accept new projects to connect the Kanha area to major roadways.

Yesterday addressing at TIOL Awards 2022 event, Gadkari said India needs a liberal economic policy with the intention to provide its benefits to poor people.

The economic reforms started by Manmohan Singh as the finance minister in 1991 gave a new direction to India. It ushered in a liberal economy he said.

“Liberal economy ke karan desh ko nayee disha mili,uske liye Manmohan Singh ka desh reeni hai (The country is indebted to Manmohan Singh for the liberalization that gave a new direction),” Gadkari said.
