“I will stand and fight again”, states Bilkis Bano post the premature release of 11 convicts in the 2002 gang rape case
21-year-old Blikis Bano was several months pregnant and was already a mother of a three-year-old daughter. While fleeing the 2002 Gujarat riots, she was gang-raped. She has experienced the spine-chilling visual of her daughter and family being killed. In August 2022 the 11 convicts who put her through this were released by the Gujarat government under remission policy.
Bilkis Bano once again has decided to fight for the word of justice and has moved to the Supreme court over the premature release of these 11 convicts Radheshyam Shah, Jaswant Chaturbhai Nai, Keshubhai Vadaniya, Bakabhai Vadaniya, Rajibhai Soni, Rameshbhai Chauhan, Shaileshbhai Bhatt, Bipin Chandra Joshi, Govindbhai Nai, Mitesh Bhatt, Pradip Modhiya.
With regard to her moving to the Supreme court, she states “I will stand and fight again, against what is wrong and for what is right.” Additionally, she said the Gujarat government’s decision to grant early release to 11 convicts on August 15 this year has “shaken the conscience of society”.
