YouTuber, Arrested For Abusing Mamata Banerjee, Brought To Kolkata

Roy was arrested from Goa on June 7 on charges of abusing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a video posted on social media.

YouTuber and vlogger Roddur Roy who was arrested by Kolkata Police in Goa on charges of abusing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was brought to Kolkata on Wednesday evening on transit remand.

He is set to be produced in a court here today.

Roy was arrested from Goa on June 7 on charges of abusing West Bengal  Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in a video posted on social media.

According to police officials, Kolkata Police arrested Roy from Goa on Tuesday on charges of abusing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in a video posted on social media, said.

On June 3, the Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen had also complained to the Police Commissioner of Kolkata against Roddur Roy, alleging that Roy had used derogatory language against the Chief Minister and other ministers in a video that he posted on social media in the aftermath of singer KK’s demise.

In 2012 a chemistry professor was jailed for forwarding a cartoon mocking Mamta Banerjee.

Meanwhile, Actress Ketaki Chitale who was arrested for derogatory remarks through a poem against NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar is still in custody. Ketki was arrested on May 14.

Punjab Police had arrested Bhartiya Janta Party Yuva Morcha General secretary  Tajinder Pal Bagga for remarks against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Last Year a 62-year-old man from Chennai who was critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for mishandling the covid-19 second wave was arrested by U.P police reported by the wire.

Similarly last year, a man from UP was arrested for allegedly using inappropriate language against UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a phone call.
