Nominated BJP MLAs stage protest in Puducherry, assert they were not given entry into the House

The customary address was made by Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi in the assembly. The three of them later with their supporters held a protest outside on the road and shouted slogans against the police.

The three MLAs of the BJP, the nomination of whom to the Puducherry assembly by the Centre was supported by the Madras High Court lately, asserted that they were not permitted to enter the House by the police today when a brief session was supposed to happen.

The MLAs namely S Selvaganapathy, V Saminathan and KG Shankar stated that they were abstained by the police who were deployed both on the inside and outside the premises of the assembly, from making an entrance into the House.

While holding a protest, one of the stirring members Shankar fell ill and had to be immediately rushed to a government hospital that was situated near the assembly.

The nomination of the three of them was discarded by V Vaithilingham, the Speaker.

The speaker by way of communicating to the members yesterday stated that he was not given an ear by the Madras high court with regards to their nomination by the Centre and therefore he stood by his order of 12 November last year, hence discarding their nomination.

The stance that was taken by the speaker was that “natural justice was not observed” in the arbitration of the matter of their nomination.

Meanwhile, V Narayanaswamy, the chief minister put forth a resolution in the House stating that the government would soon file an appeal in the Supreme Court, thus challenging the order of the high court.
