Does Umar Khalid Deserve Bail?

Most of our decisions are not born out of calm reasoning. They are shaped by our emotional quotient. And that emotional quotient is almost always influenced by ideology. Ideologies we grow up with. Ideologies that dominate our social circles. Ideologies that quietly surround us every day. Over time, everything we think, say, believe, and judge begins to flow from that ideological lens.
The problem is this. Ideological narratives are never ours. They are framed, sharpened, and pushed by ideologues and leaders. Slowly, almost invisibly, our thoughts, our words, and our judgments stop being our own. Someone else begins thinking for us.
When warning signs appear, we do not pause. We ignore them. We attack the person who points them out. We turn the whistleblower into an enemy. And by the time we realise something is wrong, it is already too late. We have changed. We think like them. We act like them. Sometimes, we even begin to resemble them. Individual judgment disappears.
Let me give you a simple example. Ask this question. Should Umar Khalid be granted bail. Instantly, one group will say yes, arguing that rapists are getting bail and he is only an accused, not convicted. Another group will say no, calling him anti national or part of a tukde tukde gang. Pause here. Are these really independent judgments, or are they reflex reactions shaped by ideology. Where is your own decision in all this.
Bail is not supposed to be emotional. It is supposed to be rational. Umar Khalid should not get bail if the court believes he can repeat the alleged offence, tamper with evidence, or flee the country. That is logical, practical, and legally sound thinking.
But if none of these risks exist, then bail should be granted. Not because someone else wrongly got bail. Not because of comparisons or outrage. But because Article 21 guarantees the right to life and personal liberty, which includes the right to a speedy trial. It has been more than five years. If the state cannot conduct a trial in that time, fairness demands bail. That is the only valid reason.
For a moment, let us look inward. Observe our thoughts. Our judgments. Our biases. Are they truly ours, or have they been quietly indoctrinated into our behavioural patterns over years.
