Peter Mukerjea sent to CBI custody of 5 days in INX Media case

Former media magnate Peter Mukerjea was sent to a 5-day CBI custody by a court in Delhi till 31 March in the INX Media case which also involves Karti Chidambaram the son of former finance minister. As a matter of fact, Sunil Rana, a special judge permitted the plea filed by the CBI that sought Mukerjea’s custody after the investigation agency asserted that he was needed to be confronted with Karti and a number of others.

Moreover, the court also permitted the plea filed by the CBI to arrest Mukerjea formally in the case.

The special court that is carrying out a trial in the Sheena Bora murder case had allowed Mukerjea on 23 March in the INX Media case to be produced before the Delhi court.

The Sheena Bora murder case had come to the fore in August 2015. The police had then nabbed her former husband Sanjiv Khanna for allegedly killing Sheena when a financial dispute erupted in the year 2012. Peter Mukerjea has been later arrested by the police since he was found to be a part of the conspiracy.

The INX Media case is related to the approval of Foreign Investment Promotion Board granted to the INX Media that was founded by the Mukerjeas for receiving foreign funds in the year 2007.

The ED (Enforcement Directorate) has registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against the Mukerjeas, INX Media, and others. INX Media is charged with the violation of the guidelines of the FIPB while receiving funds from Mauritius.
