No implementation of NRC in West Bengal, assures CM Mamata Banerjee

People from every society have the right to stay in Bengal. Not a single person will be forced to live out said, Mamata Banerjee.

Siliguri: On Monday CM Mamata Banerjee said that she would never allow the implementation of NRC in West Bengal, every person living in this state is a citizen of India.

Banerjee said those who have turned 18 should immediately enroll themselves in voters’ list. Speaking at a program here in Mallaguri, Banerjee said, “There will be no NRC implementation in West Bengal. We will not allow any division among the people in the state of the West Bengal. Do not worry. Be rest assured we are your custodians.

“Banerjee also said that the people of West Bengal have earned their right to be called an Indian citizen through their participation in the freedom struggle and contribution to Bengal renaissance.

“We live in West Bengal, are all part of India and we have earned this right from our freedom fighter, through our contribution to the renaissance.

Banerjee said “This right was given to us by Raja Rammohan Roy, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and several patriots who sacrificed their lives fighting for the independence of the nation,”.

On Monday the CM, who embarked on her north Bengal tour, her first visit to the region after Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, she said “Everyone votes because it’s our democratic right. And I request all those who have attained the age of voting to get their names enrolled as voters.”

Banerjee had always been vocal against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise, recently conducted in neighbouring Assam, while describing it as a ploy of the BJP- led central government to distract people’s attention from the economic crisis in the country.

“TMC government wants peace in every family of West Bengal. Our government will not allow anybody to disrupt peace. People from every society have the right to stay in Bengal. Not a single person will be forced to live out said, Banerjee.
