18 days on, winners yet to take oath as MLAs in Telangana

KCR

Hyderabad | The Congress hit out at the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government in Telangana over “delay” in the process of newly-elected members of the assembly taking oath as MLAs.

“In the history of India, can you find any state where even 18 days after the declaration of results, MLAs have not taken an oath?,” the Congress in-charge of Telangana affairs, R C Khuntia told PTI.

“It requires the attention of the nation that even 18 days after results have come, MLAs have not taken the oath. The Ministry has not been formed. How is it that even after 18 days, nobody is taking the oath”, he asked.

Elections to the 119-member Assembly were held on December 7 and results declared on December 11.

The TRS returned to power for the second consecutive term, winning 88 seats, pushing the main opposition Congress to a distant second position with 19 seats.

Rao was sworn in as Chief Minister on December 13.

Member of the Legislative Council, Mohammed Mehmood Ali was the only Minister to take oath. He was allocated the Home portfolio.

The Cabinet is yet to be expanded. TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samiti) sources said the Chief Minister is expected to undertake the exercise of inducting more Ministers in January first week.

On December 14, the TRS chief appointed his son K T Rama Rao as the party’s Working President.

The move came amid firm indications that Chandrasekhar Rao is keen to play a role in national politics.

Last Sunday, he embarked on a trip to promote his idea of a non-Congress, a non-BJP federal front of regional parties.

Rao this week met Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, as part of the exercise. He currently is in Delhi.

Make films on Rafale issue, demonetisation too: RJD MP

TestHostEntry

New Delhi | Taking a dig at the BJP over the biopic “The Accidental Prime Minister”, RJD MP Manoj Jha on Friday alleged the party opened up its coffers for the film and said that movies should also be made on alleged irregularities in the Rafale fighter jet deal, demonetisation and farmers’ suicide.

He said films should also be made on embattled liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya and fugitive billionaire jewellers Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.

The trailer of the film “The Accidental Prime Minister”, a political drama based on a book written by former prime minister Manmohan Singh’s media advisor Sanjaya Baru, was released in Mumbai on Thursday.

The biopic stars Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh and Akshay Khanna as Sanjaya Baru. The trailer of the movie shows Singh as a victim of the Congress’s internal politics ahead of the 2014 general elections.

“The film is not accidental. The BJP opened up its coffers for the movie. It is the first time I have seen a party handle (twitter) promoting a film.

“Why not produce films on Rafale, demonetisation, GST, farmers’ suicides and Nirav bhai, Vijay bhai and Mehul bhai? We are looking forward to these films,” the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader said.

The Congress alleged the movie is the BJP’s propaganda against it after the saffron party tweeted the trailer from its official Twitter handle on Thursday night.

The riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 long years. Was Dr Singh just a regent who was holding on to the PM’s chair till the time heir was ready? Watch the official trailer of ‘TheAccidentalPrimeMinister’, based on an insider’s account, releasing on 11 January,” the tweet read.
