However, after receiving backlash, HS Phoolka backtracked from his earlier statement saying that it was misconstrued.
Amritsar| The blame-game over Amritsar attack has begun. Aam Aadmi Party MLA HS Phoolka on Sunday created a controversy by dragging Army Chief Bipin Rawat in his comment over the attack. Phoolka in his statement suspected that head of army chief Bipin Rawat could be behind the attack. A few days ago Army chief Bipin Rawat had said that some external powers are spreading panic in Punjab. Based on the statement, HS Phoolka said that he (Bipin Rawat) may have carried out the attacked himself to prove his statement.
However, after receiving backlash, HS Phoolka backtracked from his earlier statement saying that it was misconstrued. Meanwhile, state Congress leaders have heavily attacked the AAP MLA condemning his statement. The state Congress spokesperson said that it is Phoolka’s mental bankruptcy that forced him to make such a statement. He further said that the Army Chief is the pride of India and such statements against him are an insult of the country.
Later, Phoolka clarified saying he regrets his statement against the Army Chief. Tweeting about the same, he said, “Please see the whole video. An inadvertent statement made standing on the road is being blown out of proportion. I have stated that history is evidence of that fact that governments in the past have caused violence to further their interest.”
On Sunday, three people died and 21 others were injured in a grenade attack on Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar. NIA has been tasked with conducting an investigation of the attack. Late Sunday night, the NIA team reached the spot and inspected the place for 30 minutes. The team has also expressed the possibility that it can be a terrorist attack.
