Accepted all their demands, want doctors to resume their work: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata | West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in the wake of the ceaseless doctors’ protests held all over the country, said that she has accepted all of their demands.

Addressing a press conference, she said,” I do not want to invoke the Essential Services Maintenance (ESMA) Act in the state. I want the junior doctors to resume work as we have accepted all their demands”.

“We never arrested a single person. We will not take any police action. Health services cannot continue like this. I am not going to take any stringent action. Let good sense prevail”, she added.

Mamata Banerjee accused the senior doctors of “targeting government on the pretext of the stir“.

She also talked about the doctors who refused to have a closed-door meeting with the CM.

“I had sent my ministers, principal secretary to meet the doctors, waited for 5 hours to meet doctors delegations yesterday & today, but they did not come. You have to give respect to the constitutional body”, she said.

She further appealed to all the doctors to resume their work.

Protests have now entered the fifth day and patients have been left in the lurch as junior doctors continue with the strike.
