After two-weeks of shutdown, 190 schools in Jammu and Kashmir reopen doors

Jammu and Kashmir Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal said that primary schools of Srinagar are being reopened. Gradually schools in other areas will also start.

 

New Delhi| After almost 15 days since the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the restrictions have been eased in the state. Life in the valley is slowly becoming normal. Primary schools were reopened in Kashmir today. Along with this, government offices will also open. Today, as many as 190 schools opened in Srinagar alone. Areas, where schools are open, include Laszan, Sangri, Panthok, Naugam, Rajbag, Jawahar Nagar, Gagribal, Dhara, Theed, Batmaloo and Shalteng. Since August 5, Section 144 was imposed in the valley and many restrictions are in place.

Child safety arrangements

Jammu and Kashmir Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal said in a press conference on Sunday that only the primary schools of Srinagar are being reopened. As soon as the situation becomes normal, gradually schools in other areas will also start. Kansal said that the relaxation of restrictions in the Kashmir Valley continues. Local officials are taking stock of the situation. Some more restrictions may be removed soon.

Rohit Kansal said that the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary had called a meeting of Education Department officials and heads of schools on Saturday. There was a deep discussion about the opening of schools in the district. Safety of students is the main concern of the district administration and all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure safety.

2G mobile internet services suspended in 5 districts of Jammu

While the restrictions are being eased in the Kashmir valley, on Sunday, 2G mobile Internet services were suspended in five districts of Jammu. Reportedly, this was done to stop the rumours being spread in the region. These services were restored a day earlier. Officials said the decision was taken to prevent rumours from spreading and to maintain peace.

Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in most areas on August 5

Low-speed mobile Internet services were restored in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi districts on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, about a fortnight later. On August 4, mobile Internet services in the Jammu region were suspended. Shortly before this step, curfew was imposed in the state. However, restrictions were later relaxed.
Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in most areas of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, just hours before the Center’s move to abrogate Article 370 and split Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories.
