We also faced defeat but did not quit: Uddhav to Rahul Gandhi

Mumbai | Taking a dig at the resignation by Rahul Gandhi as Congress President, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said that Shiv Sena along with its ally BJP faced several defeats in the past, but the leaders never quit.

Without naming the former Congress president, Thackeray said,” It is only now that we are winning. Nobody runs away because of an electoral defeat. Vajpayee was also defeated in elections, but he did not lose heart. Nobody resigned back then”.” Sena-BJP alliance faced many defeats in the initial years,” he added.

Thackeray’s response comes after Rahul Gandhi had officially resigned from the post of Congress chief. Posting a letter on his twitter account, he wrote that he takes full responsibility for the loss of 2019 elections.

He also said that he was empowered his party to find a new chief who can lead them with courage, love and fidelity. “I owe country and my organisation a debt of tremendous gratitude and love”, Rahul Gandhi said in the letter. “Congress must radically transform itself, it is party’s duty to defend people’s voices that BJP is crushing”, he added.

“I was born a Congressman, this party has always been with me and is my life’s blood and forever that way it shall remain”, he said.
