Mumbai: In the Andheri East Assembly Bypoll in Mumbai, Shiv Sena Thackeray candidate Rutuja Latke has won by 66,247 votes. The counting of votes for this by-election started today at 8 am. This time Riutuja Latke was in the lead since the counting of votes started. Nota garnered more votes than the rest of the candidates. Nota got 12,776 votes. This has sparked a debate in the political circles of the state.

After the death of MLA Ramesh Latke, the by-election is being held in Andheri East. After the announcement of this by-election, there were speculations that the Shinde group will too field their candidate in this poll. However, the Shinde group clarified that BJP will field their candidate. After this Murji Patel was nominated by BJP.

There was politics over Rituja Latke’s resignation from BMC. BMC didn’t accept Rutuja Latke’s resignation. Later her resignation was accepted after the case went to the Bombay High Court.

After this, BJP’s Mumbai President Ashish Shelar met MNS President Raj Thackeray and appealed for his support. Raj Thackeray wrote a letter to the Deputy Chief Minister and demanded that the BJP should withdraw its candidate.

Similarly, NCP President Sharad Pawar also demanded that BJP should withdraw its candidate. After all these political incidents, Patel withdrew his candidature. However, Patel’s workers openly raised slogans against the BJP and expressed their displeasure.
