Andhra Special Status: TDP moves privilege motion against PM Modi

New Delhi | Telegu Desam Party (TDP) after issuing a No-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha over special status of Andhra Pradesh is now planning to move a privilege motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘lying’ in the house over the issue.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has asked its MP’s to move a privilege motion against Prime Minister Modi for misleading the house on the special status of Andhra Pradesh. PM Modi, during his speech in the no-confidence motion, had quoted the 14th Finance Commission to express his inability to grant special category status to the coastal state.

However TDP, unimpressed by the PM’s response said it is a wrong interpretation and hence PM Modi along with Piyush Goyal, who repeated PM Modi’s statement in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, must be held accountable.

Congress party on Tuesday also submitted a notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for a privilege motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman over the Rafale deal stating they mislead the House on the commercial value of the deal to buy Rafale fighter jets from France.

Earlier in March, TDP quit the NDA following the Centre’s refusal to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
