Bharat Bandh against SC/ST act amendments pointless: Ram Vilas Paswan #BharatBandh

Several Dalit organizations called for Bharat Bandh on Monday after the Supreme Court’s order introducing some amendments in the SC/ST Act.

As the call for Bharat Bandh has gripped the country, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has called the agitation pointless.

Several Dalit organizations called for Bharat Bandh on Monday after the Supreme Court’s order introducing some amendments regarding the arrests under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The Supreme Court order resulted in widespread discontent among the Dalit population who decided to take to the streets to protest against the changes in the act.

Responding to the same, Ram Vilas Paswan said that he sees no point in Bharat Bandh when Centre is already filing a review petition in the Apex Court on Monday itself. “What is the point of organising a Bharat Bandh? The government is positively going to file the review petition,” Paswan said while talking to a News Agency.

After the Supreme Court order in the SC/ST Act, several Dalit ministers and MPs in the BJP government and NDA raised the issue with the Prime Minister of India. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had confirmed that Centre is positively filing a review petition in this regard challenging the ruling.
