BJP demands Rahul Gandhi’s apology for Tharoor’s ‘Modi is like scorpion on Shivling’ remark

New Delhi | The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Sunday demanded an apology from Congress President Rahul Gandhi for Shashi Tharoor’s statement where he said quoting an RSS source that “PM Modi is like a Scorpion sitting on a Shivling”.

Addressing a press conference Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “While Rahul Gandhi who claims himself to be a Shiv bhakt, one of his small leaders has almost abused the sanctity of Shiv Linga and Lord Mahadev by referring to chappal attack through named sources”.

Demanding an apology from the Congress president, Prasad said, “Rahul Gandhi you claim yourself be to a Shiv Bhakt please reply to this very horrific denunciation of Lord Mahadev by giving apology to what Tharoor has done.”

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Union Minister Giriraj Singh termed Tharoor statement as a disrespect to crores of Hindu gods and PM Modi. He further added that if Tharoor would have spoken such things in Pakistan he voice would have been suppressed.

Earlier while speaking at the Bangalore Literature Festival Congress leader Shashi Tharoor sparked controversy when he claimed that BJP’s political ideologue Rashtriya Syamsevak Sangh (RSS) considers Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘Scorpion on a Shivling’. Tharoor said, ”There’s an extraordinarily striking metaphor expressed by an unnamed RSS source to a journalist, that, “Modi is like a scorpion sitting on a Shivling, you can’t remove him with your hand & you cannot hit it with a chappal either.”
