Kolkata: In a bid to reach out to the minorities of the state, the West Bengal BJP Minority Morcha has decided to felicitate its victorious minority candidates in the just concluded rural polls in the state.
“We have decided that we will felicitate all the victorious candidates from the minority community,” state BJP Minority Morcha president Ali Hossain told PTI.
“We had wanted to field more than 2000 minority candidates. But due to unprecedented terror, we could field only 850 minority candidates, out of which 50 had managed to win. We will felicitate them on June 3,” Hossain said.
According to state BJP sources, this is not only the highest number of candidates the saffron party has fielded ever in the panchayat polls in the state.
In the 2013 panchayat polls, the BJP had less than 100 from the minority communities in its candidate list.
“The minority community has realised that BJP is not their enemy as projected by other parties. They have realised that BJP believes in development for all,” he said.
