BJP leaders criticise P Chidambaram’s statement on Article 370

New Delhi | Several BJP leaders have attacked Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram for his statements on abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Sunday Chidambaram, at a meeting in Chennai had said, “Had there been a Hindu majority in Kashmir, BJP wouldn’t have touched it (Article 370), but because there is a Muslim majority in Kashmir, they abrogated it”.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh said,”Congress’s appeasement mentality is still there. P Chidambram is using the language of appeasement. Steps taken by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah in Jammu and Kashmir are for the benefit of the country. This step will do justice to all communities of J&K.”

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “I pity Chidambaram’s mindset. He only looks at Hindustan through the lens of Hindu-Muslim. Be it a Hindu or a Muslim, we pay the same respect to everyone.”

Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “This statement is very irresponsible. This is a provocative statement.”

Chidambaram had accused Prime Minister Modi of “selectively” talking about laws in Jammu and Kashmir. “I can list out 90 other laws that apply to J&K”, he had said.
