“BJP Will Win West Bengal By-Election”: Mukul Roy’s Slip of Tongue Embarrasses TMC

The BJP was quick to respond to the TMC leader’s gaffe. It said that Mukul Roy had “unwittingly spoken the truth”.

In an embarrassing slip of the tongue, senior TMC leader Mukul Roy on Friday said that BJP will win West Bengal by-elections. The leader, who returned to TMC after BJP’s defeat in West Bengal Assembly elections earlier this year, left the reporters present stunned with his comments. However, upon realising that he had wished success for his former party, he quickly corrected himself. However, that did not stop the opposition BJP from taking a dig at the TMC leader.

Mukul Roy was speaking to reporters at TMC headquarters in Kolkata. “The BJP will win convincingly in the assembly by-polls. It will win in Tripura. There is not an iota of doubt in that,” Mukul Roy said. His comments captured on the Camera left many stunned.

However, he swiftly covered it up saying, “The Trinamool Congress will undoubtedly win the by-elections. BJP will be trounced.” He said that the party which believes in ‘Maa Mati Manush’ will remain the winner in West Bengal and it will also open its account in Tripura.

The BJP was quick to respond to the TMC leader’s gaffe. It said that Roy had “unwittingly spoken the truth”.

Mukul Roy who rose to prominence in TMC in his initial years in Politics had switched over to BJP in 2017. Roy was considered one of the close aides of Banerjee and his exit was seen as a big jolt to the party. In BJP, he helped the saffron party grow in the state, engineered the exodus of many TMC leaders into the BJP. He was also elevated to the position of national vice-president in BJP. However, after BJP’s loss in the 2021 Assembly elections, he returned to the TMC.

Interestingly, Roy still remains a BJP MLA from Krishnanagar north seat.
