Border Tensions: Mizoram Police Books Assam CM, Others On Charges of Murder, Criminal Conspiracy

Four senior Assam police officials, two bureaucrats and 200 unidentified Assam Police personnel have been named in the FIR by Mizoram Police along with the Assam CM.

 

Aizawl| Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been booked under the charges of attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy by Mizoram Police, amid the escalating border tension between the two north-eastern states. The move by Mizoram Police comes 5 days after the violent clashes between the police of the two states in bordering districts. Six Assam policemen were killed in the deadly clashes and several others were injured.

According to the report by India Today, four senior Assam police officials, two bureaucrats and 200 unidentified Assam Police personnel have been named in the FIR along with the Chief Minister. Apart from Murder and Criminal Conspiracy, the FIR, dated July 26, also cites Arms Act and Mizoram Containment and Prevention of Covid-19 Act 2020.

The FIR states that 200 fully armed Assam police personnel intimidated the team of 20 of their Policemen and tried to forcefully capture their camp. It also states that the Assam Police personnel had brought tents with them and said it was on the instructions from Assam Chief Minister himself.

Assam Issues Travel Advisory

Earlier, on Friday, Assam issued travel advisory to citizens asking them to not go to Mizoram claiming threat to life. On Thursday, in a notice it also ordered inspection of all the vehicles coming in from Mizoram to check if there are illicit drugs.

Mizoram, on the other hand, has shot off 3 letters to the Union Home Ministry citing Economic Blockade by Assam. The state’s home secretary asked home minister Amit Shah to intervene and take “appropriate action”.
