Over 500 Injured In Blast In Iran Amidst US – Iran Talks

Thick black smoke came out of the site of explosion as over 400 people got injured in this accident

On Saturday, multiple containers detonated, resulting in a significant explosion and caused fire at a crucial Iranian port, injuring 400 individuals. Video footage captured dense smoke rising from the port vicinity.

State television reported that Esmaeil Malekizadeh, a local port official, stated, ‘The explosion took place in a section of the Shahid Rajaee port dock, and we are in the process of extinguishing the fire.’

According to The Jerusalem Post, the explosion took place in proximity to a naval base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have refuted any claims of involvement in the incident.

Videos circulating on social media depicted thick black smoke rising from the site of the explosion. Additional footage revealed damage to various structures and vehicles. Several individuals were assisting the injured and examining the debris.

A local crisis management official informed Reuters, ‘Several containers stored at the Shahid Rajaee Port wharf exploded, and led to the incident. Efforts to evacuate and transport the injured to medical facilities are currently in progress.’

Located 1000 kilometers south of Tehran, Shahid Rajaee is Iran’s most sophisticated container port, situated 23 kilometers west of Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan province and north of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply is transported.

Mokhtar Salahshour, the Head of the Hormozgan Red Crescent Society, informed state television that ‘Four rapid response teams were sent to the location following the explosion.’

Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, the head of the province’s crisis management authority, confirmed to state television that the incident was caused by the explosion of several containers.

‘We are currently in the process of evacuating and transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities,’ he added.

The detonation occurred while the United States and Iran were engaged in a third round of discussions in Oman regarding Tehran’s rapidly progressing nuclear program.
