Breaking: Floor Test To Be Conducted Tomorrow, Says SC On Maharashtra Political Crisis

Uddhav Delhi

The Supreme Court on Wednesday, in a setback for the Shiv Sena and MVA government, upheld governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s order to hold floor test in assembly tomorrow. The floor test will be conducted tomorrow as ordered, the apex court said.

The bench said it is ordering notice on the petitions and that tomorrow’s floor test proceedings will be subject to the final outcome of the writ petition.

The Supreme Court was hearing Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s plea against an order by the governor to prove his majority tomorrow. Shiv Sena rebels, who have ignored Mr Thackeray’s appeals to return, have left Guwahati and will attend the floor test tomorrow.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the Shiv Sena, had sought to postpone the floor test by at least one week. He had argued that the floor test cannot be conducted as the matter pertaining to disqualification of 16 Shiv Sena MLAs was still undecided in the top court.

According to reports, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will address the people of Maharashtra through Facebook live at 9.30.
