“Bring Rebel MLAs Of Maharashtra To Bengal,” Says Mamata Banerjee After TMC Protest In Guwahati

Hours after Trinamool workers protests in Guwahati outside the hotel where the rebel Sena MLAs are staying, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee asked why these MLAs are in Assam at a time when the state is reeling under flood.
Kolkata: On Thursday, Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, attacked the BJP, saying it was attempting to topple the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration. The Trinamool leader questioned why MLAs were being sent to flood-stricken Assam, saying, “Send Bengali MLAs from Maharashtra. We shall treat them with kindness.” After Trinamool supporters demonstrated in front of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati, where the dissident Maharashtra MLAs are staying, the chief minister made his remark.

“Democracy is totally bulldozed by the BJP government. I feel sad. It’s an unfortunate fact that the federal structure is totally demolished by the BJP government,” Mamata Banerjee said.

Abhishek Banerjee, a Trinamool MP and the nephew of Mamata Banerjee, ridiculed Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, on Thursday, saying that the administration is “busy following directions from Delhi to play host to dissident MLAs,” which makes it plain what the government’s objectives are.

“I wish CM Himanta Biswa cared more about the flood-affected victims and less about toppling the Maharashtra government. Priorities are clear for a remote controlled subservient government,” Abhishek tweeted.

In the midst of the political chaos in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa has come under fire for hosting the dissident Sena MLAs who chose Guwahati for their camping destination directly from Surat. Himanta, however, downplayed the criticism and stated that he would be pleased if Assam became a hub for world politics because it would increase the state’s ability to generate income. “Since it will generate income, we should be pleased. In these trying times of terrible floods in the state, we would benefit from GST and need it “On Wednesday, Sarma added.
