Can become UP Chief Minister if I want to: Hema Malini

Member of Parliament Hema Malini on Thursday said she can become the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh “at any minute.” However, the Mathura lawmaker said she was not keen on taking up the responsibility.

“I am not too keen,” said the Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. “If I want to I can become that [chief minister] in a minute, but I don’t like to be tied up. My freedom of movement will end.” She made the remark in Rajasthan’s Banswara city when asked whether she would become the chief minister if she got the opportunity.

The 69-year-old also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing measures for the upliftment of farmers, women and the poor. “It is difficult to find a prime minister like him. Leaders of other parties may say anything but we need to see who has done more work for the country,” she said.

“I am known mainly because of my name in Bollywood, call it ‘dream girl’ or Hema Malini,” she said. She said she had done a lot of work for her party even before being elected as MP. Now the MP of Mathura, she loves working for the “Brijwasi” people, she said.

The actor-turned-politician, who was in the city to perform at a religious function, took to social media to share pictures of her visit.
