CBI probe on Akhilesh will backfire against BJP: Ram Gopal Yadav

New Delhi | Calling the CBI probe against former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav a revenge politics, Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav has said that this move will backfire against BJP.

Addressing media, Yadav asked, “If a UP min organises a Press Conference in Delhi and asks for a CBI probe against Akhilesh, what conclusion can you draw from it?” Criticisng the Uttar Government and BJP, the Samajwadi Party leader said, the probe against Yadav will backfire on BJP and they won’t even get to put their feet in Uttar Pradesh. Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, PM will have to leave Varanasi and fight elections from elsewhere.

Earlier Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday speaking on reports of CBI probe against him said that he is ready to face the probe agency, but people are also ready to answer the BJP. According to the CBI FIR made public on January 5, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister may face a probe by the CBI. The move has come on the day arch rivals SP and BSP indicated their intent to join hands to counter the BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The CBI carried out searches at 14 locations on January 5 in connection with its FIR against 11 persons including IAS officer B Chandrakala, Samajwadi Party MLC Ramesh Kumar Mishra and Sanjay Dixit to probe alleged illegal mining of minor minerals in Hamirpur district during 2012-16. Yadav, who was the chief minister of the Uttar Pradesh between 2012 and 2017, held the mining portfolio during 2012-13 apparently bringing his role under scanner, according to the FIR.
