With assets worth ₹177 crores, Chandrababu Naidu, was declared as the richest Chief Minister. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was declared as the ‘poorest’ Chief Minister with assets of only ₹26 Lakhs.
Association of Democratic Reforms, an organization working for Electoral and Political Reforms has recently released a report studying the wealth of all the chief ministers of India. According to the report, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu grabs no. 1 spot as the wealthiest CM while Tripura CM Manik Sarkar stood last as the poorest CM in the country.
The report comes in the wake of recent survey result which stated that 73% of the wealth in India is concentrated in the hands of 1% population. The income inequality is also evident by an analysis of the wealth of Chief Ministers.
With assets worth ₹177 crores, Telugu Desam Party leader Chandrababu Naidu was declared as the richest CM. On the other hand, with ₹26 lakh CPI (M) leader and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was declared as the ‘poorest’ Chief Minister.
With the assets worth ₹129 crores and ₹48 crores, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh stood at second and third spot respectively.
Trinamool Congress chief and CM of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee declared the assets worth ₹30 lakhs. PDP leader and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had declared assets valued at ₹55 lakh.
Criminal cases
The report also listed criminal cases filed against the chief ministers. Shockingly as much as 35% of the current CMs have criminal charges. Total 11 of the 31 CMs, have criminal charges against them.
Total 26% CMs have declared serious criminal cases. Serious criminal charges include cases related to murder, attempt to murder, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property and criminal intimidation, etc.
Educational Qualification:
The report also found out the educational qualification of the Chief Ministers. According to the data, 10% of the CMs are 12th pass, 39% graduate, 32% graduate professional, 16% postgraduate and 3% doctorate.
