Salman Khurshid asks Mehul Choksi to face trial, if allegations are baseless

New Delhi | Congress leader and former Law Minister Salman Khurshid on Wednesday asked fugitive Businessman Mehul Choksi to return to India and face trial before the law if the allegation charged against him by the Enforcement Directorate are false.

Choksi who is wanted in a 13,000 crore Punjab National Bank financial scam along with his nephew Nirav Modi on Tuesday released a video stating the allegation against him are false and baseless. Choksi had alleged that he is being made a ‘soft target’ and undergoing a ‘media trial’ in India.

Speaking to media the Congress leader said, “I am not an appellate authority on the ED, the ED has made allegations, if they are false and baseless, Mr Choksi should come and face them in the country, that’s the standard for everyone.”

The former law minister further added that “If allegations are made against Choksi, he should go to a court and answer it, the courts will finally prevail. If he is correct, the courts will support him. So why is he running away if he believes that what the ED is doing is wrong? He should come back and face the institutions of the country.”
