Intensifying its attack on the Modi-led government, Congress is observing fast today across the country. Congress President Rahul Gandhi is leading the nation-wide fast. Rahul Gandhi reached the Rajghat and paid tribute to the memoir of Mahatma Gandhi. According to a source, he will be attending the event from 11 AM to 4 PM.

The Dalit outrage is at its peak in the country. The Congress’ has been launching a scathing attack on PM Modi and BJP over the Supreme Court ruling introducing an amendment in SC/ST Act. The Congress also accused the BJP of disturbing the social harmony in the country.

However, the one-day fast is being observed to protest against several issues like PNB Scam, Gitanjali scam, CBSE Paper leaks and the impasse in the parliament which led to negligible transactions in the budget session.

Congress in its statement issued said that the peace and harmony are imbibed in the country and the responsibility to uphold it lies with Congress. The statement further slammed BJP for the Bharat Bandh violence saying that the government’s in the BJP ruled states didn’t take any action to curb the violence. “It becomes even more important for the Congress to lead the nation in tough time,” said the statement.

However, the fast event in Delhi stirred a controversy when Anti-Sikh riots accused Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar were spotted on the stage. Estimating the possible backlash, Delhi Congress Chief Ajay Maken asked both of them to leave the spot. However, while talking to a news agency, Tytler refuted the claim and said he was not asked to leave the site. “I just asked what time Rahul Gandhi would be coming,” said Tytler.

On the other hand, BJP took a jibe at the protest saying it is staged. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said, “Mahatma Gandhi would protest for 21 days, but Rahul Gandhi has made a mockery of fasting.”
