New Delhi | The Congress Party leaders on Wednesday have expressed their anger over the lookout notice that has been sent against the former Finance Minister P Chidambaram.
After Delhi High Court rejected P Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail on Tuesday, he has approached the Supreme Court. The apex court, however, refused to pass any order and said that the matter would reach CJI Ranjan Gogoi. The CJI was, however, busy at the time due to Ayodhya hearing.
A lookout notice has been issued by CBI and ED against P Chidambaram, who has been ‘missing’ since more than 20 hours.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of “misusing the power”.
He wrote on Twitter, “Modi’s Govt is using the ED, CBI & sections of a spineless media to character assassinate Mr Chidambaram. I strongly condemn this disgraceful misuse of power”.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that she stands by him, and will ‘fight for the truth’.
“An extremely qualified and respected member of the Rajya Sabha, P Chidambaram ji has served our nation with loyalty for decades including as Finance Minister & Home Minister. He unhesitatingly speaks truth to power and exposes the failures of this government.”
“But the truth is inconvenient to cowards so he is being shamefully hunted down. We stand by him and will continue to fight for the truth no matter what the consequences are”, she added.
Party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala termed it as a “virulent vendetta by the Modi government’.
“India witnesses worst kind of virulent vendetta by Modi Govt as the BJP runs a police state. Judge reserves judgement for 7 months & delivers it 72 hours before retirement, CBI/ED are sent to raid as a respected former FM is hounded. Banana Republic?”, he wrote on Twitter.
