Congress moves 65 Gujarat MLAs to Mt Abu ahead of Rajya Sabha elections

Ahmedabad | The Congress party as a precautionary move will be shifting its 65 MLAs in Gujarat to Rajasthan’s Mount Abu ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in the state to avoid any kind of cross-voting.

Gujarat Congress sources informing about the move said,” “We will shift to Mount Abu by 4 pm today and are taking this precautionary step due to the pressure tactics of the BJP. Out of the 71 MLAs we have, 65 will stay in Mt Abu.”

Speaking on the reaming MLAs who won’t be moving to Mt Abu, Gujarat Congress spokesperson said,” Himmatsinh Patel, Imran Khedawala and Shailesh Parmar won’t be able to join us as upcoming Lord Jagannath Yatra procession will go through their constituencies in Ahmedabad on Thursday and they are needed there while Alpesh Thakor and Dhavalsinh Zala, who have turned rebel.”

The Congress party had earlier in 2017 made similar arrangements for its MLAs and kept them in a Karnataka resort during the Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat to ensure Ahmed Patel’s return to the upper house.
