Goa: Jawaharlal Nehru’s photo gets replaced by Veer Savarkar; NSUI alleges RSS ideology

Panaji | National Students Union Of India (NSUI) has alleged the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) of putting the ideology of its political ideologue Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the minds of the people of Goa after a photograph of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was been replaced by freedom fighter Vinayak Savarkar in Class 10 Social Science books.

“It is very sad that the BJP has removed the photo of Pandit Nehru from the textbook and Savarkar’s photo has been included in the books of the Goa Education Authority, said NSUI Goa chief Ahraz Mulla. He further added, “Tomorrow, they will remove the photo of Mahatma Gandhi and question what Congress has done in 60 years.”

Addressing the press conference Ahraz Mulla said, “They have to ensure they do not change history, which our ancestors have given us and the fight which the Congress has carried out for Independence.” He claimed that photo has been removed and the current edition of the book titled, “India and the Contemporary World II – Democratic Politics” and includes a coloured photo of Savarkar instead of Nehru on the same page.

“NSUI delegation will meet CM Parikar regarding this issue,”said the student leader adding that ” if he also follows RSS ideology and doesn’t put Jawaharlal Nehru’s photograph back, we will take to the streets and protest.”
