Congress, NCP to contest 2019 polls together in Maharashtra: Sharad Pawar

Mumbai | Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday confirmed that his party along with Congress and Peasants&Workers Party of India will contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls together.

Speaking to media, the former Union Minister said,” In Maharashtra, Congress and NCP will contest 2019 polls together along with Peasants and Workers Party of India.” Speaking on the seat share in Maharashtra Pawar said,” Talks have taken place over 40 seats,8 seats remain. Final decision will be taken shortly. If any confusion remains then chiefs of both the parties will solve it.”

Earlier speaking seat share with the NCP for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls Congress Maharashtra Unit president, Ashok Chavan had said, “Our talks for seat sharing with alliance partners have come to the final stage, which needs to be approved by the party leadership. The other minor issues that are left over sharing of seats will be resolved by Congress president Rahul Gandhi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar.”

The six Lok Saha seats where both the parties are yet to agree upon are Ahmednagar, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Aurangabad, Yavatmal, Nashik and Nandurbar. Out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had won 4 seats while the Congress party had just won 2 seats.
