Congress Plenary Session to draft a Plan of Action for next five years

The plenary session will be attended by the Congress chief ministers from various states, state Congress committee presidents and Congress legislature leaders.

 

The newly elected Congress President Rahul Gandhi is expected to address the Congress party workers at the party’s plenary session today. The Plenary session which will be conducted over three days began in New Delhi on Friday.

The plenary session will be attended by the Congress chief ministers from various states, state Congress committee presidents and Congress legislature leaders. Rahul Gandhi on Friday also chaired the meeting of a steering committee on Friday where the party finalised two draft resolutions. Today, the resolutions will be presented in the plenary session. According to Congress party leaders, the two resolutions include a) Political b) Agricultural, Job-related and Poverty alleviation related.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi today took it to Twitter to welcome the Congress members who are attending the Plenary session. He tweeted, “Welcome delegates and distinguished guests to the #CongressPlenary. Over the next two days, I look forward to interacting with you and to sharing experiences and perspectives that will together help us build a stronger, more vibrant Congress party. Jai Hind.”

Along with Rahul Gandhi, former Congress President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are also expected to deliver a speech today. Selecting the new members of Congress Working Committee is also on the cards. Primarily, in this session, the party will discuss its course of action for upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. According to Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, the party will also lay down its plan of action for the next five years.

Talking to reporters on Friday, he said, “Congress plenary session is beginning from tomorrow, it will decide the direction of the party for the next 5 years. It will be a workers’ plenary, focus would be workers and not leaders.” He further asserted that it was Congress President who insisted that in this plenary session, the focus should be more on issues and ideologies rather than leadership.
