Congress soft towards terrorism : Yogi Adityanath

Bhubaneswar | Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday accused Congress of being “soft” towards terrorism and said with a strong government under BJP at the Centre, China and Pakistan no more indulge in misadventures.

Development of the country and national security are two sides of the same coin for Narendra Modi government which cannot compromise on those, he said at a series of election rallies at Rourkela, Angul and Phulbani.

“Incursion by the Chinese army, which was a regular affair during the Congress-led UPA government, ended after Narendra Modi became the prime minister,” Adityanath claimed.

“Similarly, Pakistan was beheading our soldiers on the border during the UPA rule. Now with Modi as the prime minister, China and Pakistan cannot afford to indulge in misadventures,” he said.

Pakistan had launched terror attacks in India with “impunity” during the Congress era. “Modi government has shown the spine to prevent any recurrence”, he said and blamed Congress’ soft approach towards terrorists and naxalites for the country’s failure to take giants strides on the road to development.

Adityanath referred to the country’s response to the Pulwama terror strike and said, “Pakistan was given a fitting reply after the killing of 40 CRPF jawans when India carried out air strikes on terror camps (at Balakote) inside Pakistan.

“India’s action was not just confined to destruction of terror camps. It was a strong step towards breaking the backbone of Pakistan … BJP has zero tolerance towards terrorism,” he said.

Adityanath, who addressed the rallies hours before Election Commission’s 72-hour ban on his campaign, also lashed out at the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government in Odisha accusing it of being “neck-deep in corruption and failure on all fronts”.

“The irony is that BJD government does not bother about the state. It has not done anything significant for the state in its 19-year long rule. The government has failed miserably on all fronts. It has failed to utilise the central funds,” the BJP leader said.

Accusing the BJD government of adopting a “negative” thinking, he alleged that it is unable to utilise the central funds. The BJD government has a negative vision for the development of Odisha. Corruption has become all pervasive and there have been mining, chit fund and mid-day meal scams,” Adityanath said.

Whatever development is happening in Odisha is because of the central government,” he claimed and cited the example of Rourkela, which has been included under the UDAN scheme and granted the smart city status.

Referring to the the work on the second Brahmani Bridge and the super speciality hospital at the Ispat General Hospital, he said “There will be no dearth of funds for the projects once we return to power at the Centre”.

“However, for the proper development of the state it is essential that you must have the double engine government – both at the Centre and also in the state,” he said urging to the people to give BJP a chance for “full-fledged development of the state”.

Keeping up his criticism of the ruling BJD, he said Odisha will not be able to witness development as long as the party is in power and people must rid the state of it.

Time has come to act judiciously by electing BJP both for the centre and state, the UP chief minister said.

Odisha is holding state assembly polls simultaneously with the Lok Sabha election.

Adityanath likened Patnaik to Rahul Gandhi as like the Congress president he is contesting from two seats “fearing defeat”.

“This shows lack of confidence. This is the result of Modijis efforts in five years. Today the entire opposition is scared of him. President of a corruption ridden party (Congress) has fled from the scene,” he said.

The BJP-led government at the Centre, Adityanath said, has worked hard for all under Modi’s avowed principle of sabka saath sabka vikas. The Ujwala Yojana, Udaan, pucca houses to many, Swaach Bharat Yojana, Ayshman Yojana and other schemes have brought development to all.

During his campaign programme on the day, the BJP leader addressed rallies in areas covering Lok Sabha seats of Sundargarh, Dhenkanal and Kandhamal.
