New Delhi | The Congress party has decided to nominate former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan after it failed to convince DMK for one seat in Tamil Nadu.
According to sources, the Congress party has finalised Singh’s name from Rajasthan as a Rajya Sabha seat is vacant after the death of state BJP chief Madanlal Saini last month and it will be announced after the dates of the election are notified.
Earlier there were reports of Singh being nominated to Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu however the reports vanished when DMK named there three candidates for the Rajya Sabha. The seat which was supposed to be left for Congress was given to V Gopalasamy or Vaiko of MDMK.
Sources said the DMK’s MK Stalin had agreed to leave 1 seat for Congress but he was upset when neither Rahul Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi directly approached him. Instead, party leaders like Ahmed Patel and Ghulam Nabi Azad spoke to DMK leaders.
Manmohan Singh tenure in Rajya Sabha ended in April 2019 but the Congress party failed to get him reelected from Assam as it didn’t have enough numbers in the state assembly.
