Congress confidant of winning all 20 seats in Kerala: Ramesh Chennithala

Ramesh Chennithala said that Rahul Gandhi contesting from Wayanad in Kerala would also boost the morale of all the Congress cadre in southern India.

Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala Opposition leader and Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala assures that after Rahul Gandhi’s decision to contest from Wayanad in Kerala, they would win all the 20 Lok Sabha seats.

When asked if it would help get Congress more seats, he told HW News, “Yes, definitely. Rahul Gandhi’s decision will help increase the seats, in the entire south, not only in Kerala. Will be helpful to increase the tally from the southern part of India”.

He said that it would also boost the morale of all the Congress cadre in southern India.

Talking about the Congress-led UDF alliance, Ramesh Chennithala said, “UDF had 10 seats out of 20 in 2014 which is a majority. After Rahul Gandhi’s decision, the tally will go up. I will not be surprised if we get 20 out of 20”.

There were rumours that IUML had issues with Rahul Gandhi contesting from Wayanad. Clearing the doubts, he said that all parties in the UDF have welcomed this decision, including IUML.

When asked if Congress and Rahul Gandhi’s contradicting views on the Sabarimala issue would hamper the campaign, he asserted, “Rahul Gandhi respects our view and has given us the freedom to work accordingly”.

Ramesh Chennithala talked about opposing the Left in Kerala, which is the main force in the state, while also having a prospect of an alliance, “CPI(M) chief Sitaram Yechury and the central unit were in favour of having a united front at the national level. Kerala CM Vijayan and some CPM leaders opposed that, so they do not have much right to speak against Rahul Gandhi”.

Earlier today, it was announced by senior Congress party leader A K Antony that Rahul Gandhi will be contesting from Wayanad in Kerala, along with Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
