New Delhi| Former JNU student leader and politician Shehla Rashid has found herself in trouble over series of tweets alleging atrocities in the valley by Indian Army. A criminal complaint has been filed against the J&K people’s Movement leader. The complaint has been filed by a Supreme Court lawyer Alok Srivastava and has sought her arrest.

Srivatsava in his complaint said that Shehla Rashid is allegedly spreading fake news against the Indian Army and Government of India. The complaint also hinted towards sedition saying that she had intended to incite “disaffection towards the Government of India”.

Shehla Rashid alleges atrocities:

In a series of tweets, Shehla Rashid had made several allegations and recorded observations allegedly from people coming from Kashmir. She had alleged that Jammu and Kashmir police has no authority in the state and everything is in the hands of paramilitary forces.

She tweeted, “People are saying that J&K Police has no authority on law & order situation. They’ve been rendered powerless. Everything is in the hands of paramilitary forces.” “One SHO was transferred on the complaint of a CRPF man. SHOs carrying batons. Service revolvers can’t be seen on them,” Shehla tweeted. She further said that Armed forces are entering the house, picking up the boys and even ransacking the houses.

Indian Army denies allegations:

However, the Indian Army has rejected the allegation calling it “fake news”. Indian Army said that allegations levelled by Shehla Rashid are baseless and rejected. “Such unverified and fake news are spread by inimical elements and organization to incite the unsuspecting population,” it said.

Police deny allegation:

Jammu Inspector General of Police Mukesh Singh said that false rumours are being spread about some incidents in Rajouri, Gujjar Nagar. Rumours are also being spread about the strike in Jammu, claiming that there is a long queue at the petrol pump, which is completely baseless. He said that no such incident has happened, due to technical fault 2G internet is temporarily interrupted, which is being rectified soon, they are strictly dealing with rumour mongers.
