CS assault case: CM should join probe without indulging in politics, says Delhi BJP

Arvind Kejriwal

The Delhi BJP today expressed hope that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would join the police probe into chief secretary Anshu Prakash assault case without “indulging in politics”.

The “conspiracy” of assault on Prakash was “hatched” at Kejriwal’s residence so it was no surprise that he was to be questioned by the police, alleged Vijender Gupta, BJP legislator and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.

The Delhi Police today sent a notice to Kejriwal, asking him to appear before it in connection with the alleged assault on the chief secretary.

“The chief minister should cooperate in investigation instead of indulging in politics over it,” Gupta said.

He also criticised the Delhi Police for delaying the questioning of Kejriwal in connection with the case.

“It is a delayed step by the police. I fail to understand why police was hesitant in questioning him,” he said.

Last month, Kejriwal’s private secretary Bibhav Kumar and party volunteer Vivek Kumar were also questioned in connection with the case.

The police have already questioned 11 AAP MLAs who were present at the chief minister’s residence for the meeting on February 19 in which Prakash was allegedly attacked.

Kejriwal, his former advisor V K Jain and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia were also present there.

The alleged assault on the chief secretary had triggered a bitter tussle between the Delhi government and its bureaucracy.

Navjot Singh Sidhu

Chandigarh | Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday clarified that the Congress party is not in favour of its minister Navjot Singh Sindhu hugging Pakistan’s Army Chief during the oath-taking ceremony of Cricketer turned Politician Imran Khan as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Speaking to media, Amarinder Singh said, “It was wrong for him (Navjot Singh Sidhu)to have shown the affection towards the Pakistan Army Chief,  I am not in its favour of this act.” He further added that “Everyday our jawans are getting martyred. To hug their Chief General Bajwa…I am against this. The fact is that the man should understand that our soldiers are being killed everyday.”

Criticising Sidhu for his act Amarinder Singh said, “To say that ‘I don’t know General Bajwa’…it is written on their uniform. That’s wrong for him (Sidhu) to have shown the affections he did for the Pakistan Army Chief.” Holding Bajwa responsible for the death of Indian soldiers at the LOC Amarinder Singh said, “My own regiment lost 1 Major & 2 jawans a few months ago & everyday somebody is being shot & whether the man who pulled the trigger is to blame or the man who gives the order which is the chief, and the chief is General Bajwa.”

However, when asked about Sidhu being sited next to the President of Pakistan’s Kashmir Masood Khan, Singh said that maybe he (Sidhu) didn’t know who he was. He further stated that the Punjab government has nothing to do with Sidhu attending the oath ceremony of Imran Khan as he went there in his personal capacity.

Responding to the controversy of sitting next to POK President, Cricketer turned Politician Navjot Singh Sidhu said that, “If you’re invited as a guest of honour somewhere, you sit wherever you are asked to. I was sitting somewhere else but they asked me to sit there”. When asked about him hugging Pakistan Army Chief General Bajwa, Sidhu said,” If someone (Pak Army Chief General Bajwa) comes to me & says that we belong to the same culture & we’ll open Kartarpur border on Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th Prakash Parv, what else I could do?”

The Punjab minister was criticised by the opposition for visiting Pakistan and hugging Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa during the oath ceremony of Imran Khan. BJP leader and Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij termed Sidhu’s participation in the ceremony as an “act of disloyalty” towards India which “will not be endorsed by any patriotic citizen” of the country. While another BJP leader Shwait Malik demanded an apology from him for the “unacceptable act.”

Congress

New Delhi | The Congress Party on Sunday alleged that the Narendra Modi led NDA government cant match the average growth rate achieved during UPA-1.

Addressing the Press Conference former Finance minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram said, “Congress is a passionate advocate of high growth with equity and social justice.” He further alleged that all three have suffered under the Modi government.”

Criticising the BJP government on the recently released data citing that the Indian economy registered a growth rate of 10.8 percent in 2006-07 under then PM Manmohan singh, the highest since India economy was liberalised in 1991, Chidambaram said that since the advent of BJP-led NDA govt, there has been a determined effort to sow confusion of performance of former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh’s regime. “The back series data is now available. The numbers prove the dictum that truth cannot be suppressed forever and truth has a way of emerging amidst a torrent of lies and distortions,” he added.

Chidambaram stressed that “UPA 1 & UPA 2 delivered the highest decadal growth (8.13% at factor cost) since Independence. It is also a matter of record that during this period 140 million people were lifted out of poverty”. “UPA-1 registered a growth rate of 8.36 while UPA-2 registered 7.68 compared to the growth rate of the NDA government which was 5.58 during the Vajpayee government and 7.33 in the Narendra Modi government,” he added.

Speaking about the achievement of the UPA government, the Congress leader said, “The three best years were 2005-06, 2006-07 & 2007-08. Dr Arvind Subramanian called them the “boom years”. “When the UPA demitted office, economic growth had recovered to 6.39% (at market prices) in 2013-14. The fiscal deficit had been reduced to 4.48% & the current account deficit had been contained at 1.7%,” he added.

Attacking the Modi government for the implementation of economic reforms like Demonetisation and GST, the former finance minister said, “NDA 2 under PM Modi had inherited an economy that was on the upswing. Unfortunately, after the first two years, the govt stumbled & the momentum was lost. The main reasons were demonetisation, flawed implementation of GST and tax terrorism.”
