“My abilities are not put to use”: Dalit BJP MP from UP writes to PM Modi

“Several Dalit organizations have been requesting us for this but in the last four years nothing has been done by the government for the betterment of the community,” Singh said.

Days after Dalit MLA from Uttar Pradesh wrote to PM Modi complaining discrimination by UP CM Yogi Adityanath, another Dalit MP from BJP has spoken out. BJP’s Dalit MP from Uttar Pradesh, Yashwant Singh has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that his abilities are not put to use.

In a letter, Yashwant Singh who hails from Jatav community said that he has become MP due to the reservation. He further added his qualification saying that he has MD degree from All India Institute of Medical Science and has passed the USMLE exam. “I believe I have become MP due to the reservation and my abilities are not put to use,” wrote Singh. Singh said that this is the reason why he believes that reservation is the oxygen for the community in India without which the community will not have any existence.

Pointing out to the income disparity among the communities, he said that the Dalit community cannot progress without welfare policies by the government. Talking about PM Modi’s statement that the BJP will work for the welfare of backward, Dalit and poor people, Singh said that he felt hopeful about this government. He further said, “Today, the Dalit MPs of BJP are facing a lot of backlash from the community.” “It has become difficult to answer them,” said Singh.

He ended his letter requesting the PM Modi to look into the matter pertaining to the SC/ST Act, Backlog recruitment and Reservation in Promotion.
