Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman releases BJP’s ‘Vision Document’ in poll-bound Meghalaya

Apart from giving job opportunities Nirmala Sitharaman stressed on woman and hygiene issues and promised to provide one packet of sanitary napkins to each woman who belongs to below the poverty line.

On Thursday for the poll-bound Meghalaya Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman released Bhartiya Janata Party’s vision document promising employment, drinking water, electricity, and houses for everyone. This is the defence ministers maiden visit to the state.

Taking a jibe at Congress, Sitharaman pointed at the inefficiency of Congress government who is in the state for two consecutive terms. Addressing the media, Union Minister alleged that the Congress party was incapable of providing basic infrastructure to the people of Meghalaya

Speaking to the Media she said, “India is now a country with excess electricity. BJP party’s vision document will aim to provide a pukka roof, employment to every youth, job opportunity to 2 lakh youth in the Tourism industry, agricultural markets and many others.”

She further promised to reduce electricity bills in urban and rural areas by 30 and 50 percent respectively along with concrete roads to connect rural areas with district headquarters.

She questioned on the development program of Congress in the state. “Why things could not move here in 10 years under Congress regime,” she questioned.

Speaking over alliance in the North-east she said, “We are in alliance with regional parties on developmental agenda. We have representation from Union govt Ministries every week in NE. To develop the region, we are open to all developmental options”.

While being questioned on BJP’s claim to create 2 crore jobs Sitharaman said, apart from formal jobs, self-employment, informal jobs are usually not counted.
