New Delhi| Clashes broke out in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur area for the second consecutive day as pro and anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protesters pelted stones at each other on Monday.
Police had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. One police constable was killed during the clashes.

‘Environment not conducive’ to examine Shaheen Bagh matter: SC
The Supreme Court Bench said that it will not examine the interlocutor report on Shaheen Bagh as the “environment is not conducive”, with Justice Kaul saying, “Let things cool down.”
Criticising the police’s role in handling the protests and violence in Delhi, Justice KM Joseph said, “Police needs to take action like they do in England. Things are happening before them.” In response, SG Tushar Mehta said, “If the police started acting like they do in England, my lords will pull them up.”
The petition seeking clearance of Shaheen Bagh road blockade has been adjourned till 23 March. The Bench said it will examine the interlocutor’s report in the meanwhile.

Clashes broke out Sunday evening between pro and anti-CAA groups near Jaffrabad in northeast Delhi after a large number of people who have been protesting against the CAA blocked a road, while similar sit-ins started in several others part of the national capital.
Several people were injured in the stone-throwing at Maujpur yesterday. Visuals from the spot showed protesters throwing stones at each other across a road, standing close to police barricades.
There were reports that the police, who had gathered at the spot in large numbers along with para-military personnel, used tear gas to bring the mob under control.
