Devendra Fadnavis resigns as Maharashtra CM, says “No 50:50 formula decided for CM post”

Devendra Fadnavis said ShivSena constantly talked to Congress and NCP but didn’t hold talks with BJP. “They had made their mind,” he said.

Mumbai| After days of tussle with ally ShivSena, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today resigned. He submits his resignation to the governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. He met the governor along with a delegation of leaders of the BJP including state president Chandrakant Patil, Finance Minister, Sudhir Mungantiwar, MLA Ashish Shelar etc.

Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has asked Devendra Fadnavis to remain as Acting Chief Minister until government forms in the state. He also expressed regret that ShivSena-BJP couldn’t form government in the state.

After the meeting, he addressed a press conference thanking his ministers and bureaucrats for working with him and running the government together.

Meanwhile, ShivSena MP Sanjay Raut met Sharad Pawar at his residence again. Today, the tenure of Previous assembly session of Maharashtra ends. However, despite the majority for ShivSena-BJP Yuti there hasn’t been consensus on the government formation.

ShivSena has been adamant on the rotational CM post. However, BJP has denied that there were any talks of 50:50 formula for the CM post.

Responding to the demand, Fadnavis said that it was ShivSena which after the Assembly election results said that their “options are open”. “I had even then said that Mahayuti will form a government,” Fadnavis said. Dismissing the 50:50 formula demand, he also said that the rotational CM post wasn’t discussed or finalized in front of him. “CM post for Two and a half year wasn’t decided between us. We had talked about it, however, the talks had stopped then. But later, we came together and faced elections as a Grand Alliance.”

He also expressed displeasure over ShivSena’s “No Talks” policy unless there is written offer of CM post from BJP. “I called Uddhav Thackeray several times but did not get any response, ” Fadnavis said.

The former Maharashtra CM said that while ShivSena constantly talked to Congress and NCP it didn’t care to hold talks with us. “They had made their mind on the day election results were announced,” he said.

Taking a dig at Sanjay Raut who has been issuing statements against BJP in the past few days he said that such leaders are only trying to create a rift between the two parties. “Some people who have surrounded Uddhav ji are trying to create a rift between the two parties. They are attacking us constantly. We can also reply in the same language,” he said.

On allegations of BJP trying to poach MLAs Fadnavis challenged the leader to provide proof or apologize for it.
