Digvijay Singh Gets One Year Jail In 2011 Assault Case, Says โ€œWill Go To High Courtโ€

Will not Contest Digvijay

Six accused, including former Madhya Pradesh CM and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh were on Saturday sentenced by a special court in Indore to one-year imprisonment in a case related to a clash with protesting workers of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in 2011.

The court, however, later granted bail to all the convicts, including Ujjain MP Premchand Guddu, on a surety of Rs 25,000 each.

Due to lack of evidence, three accused were acquitted by the court.

Because the sentence awarded to all the accused was less than three years, they were released on bail, Government advocate Vimal Kumar Mishra said.

Digvijaya Singh and former MP Premchand Guddu, meanwhile, told that they do not want to comment on the decision of the court but they will appeal against the said sentence in the High Court.

โ€œIn the 11 year old case in which my name was not even in the FIR, it was added later under political pressure, I was punished. I am a non-violent person and have always been opposed to violent activities,โ€ Digvijay Singh wrote on Twitter in Hindi.

โ€œThe ADJ Court has given the order. We will appeal in the High Court. I am neither afraid of BJP Sangh nor will I ever be afraid no matter how many false cases are made and how many punishments are given,โ€ the Congress leader added.

BJYM activists, as per police, had tried to show black flags to Singh on July 17, 2011, when his convoy was passing through the Jiwajiganj area of Ujjain, which led to a clash.

YouTube Takes Down Singer Sidhu Moosewala Last Song SYL, Was Trending At #1

Aleesha Sam

Punjab: SYL, a song on Punjabโ€™s water crisis that was Sidhu Moose Walaโ€™s postmortem release, has been removed from YouTube. The Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal is referred to by the acronym SYL. For more than three decades, Punjab and Haryana have been at odds over the 214-kilometer-long Satluj Yamuna Link canal.

The new song was published on YouTube on Friday, June 23, by music producer MXRCI. It was written and recorded by Sidhu Moose Wala before he was fatally shot in May. The warning that appears when you click on the link now reads, โ€œThis content is not available on this country domain owing to a legal complaint from the government,โ€ and the video is no longer accessible.

The song has received 3.3 million likes and more than 27 million views on the video streaming service since its release.

The music video includes images of various militants, including Balwinder Singh Jatana, who was allegedly a member of the pro-Khalistan Babbar Khalsa and was charged with the July 23, 1990, murders of Chief Engineer M.L. Sikri and Superintendent Engineer A.S. Aulakh at the SYL office in Chandigarh.

While Haryana has been pushing for the construction of the canal in order to receive its portion of the water from the Ravi-Beas river, Punjab has been asking a reevaluation of its share.

Sidhu Moose Wala, a singer and politician, was shot and killed in Punjabโ€™s Mansa district on May 29. A day after the state government reduced Sidhu Moose Walaโ€™s security protection, he was shot and killed. He was traveling in a jeep with his cousin and a friend, both of whom were hurt in the incident.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang was allegedly responsible for the crime, which the Punjab police described as an instance of inter-gang rivalry. The Bishnoi gang member Goldy Brar, who resides in Canada, took responsibility for the murder.

A special investigative team (SIT) led by the head of the anti-gangster task force had been formed by the Punjab Police to look into the murder (AGTF). The Delhi Police just detained the murderโ€™s two primary shooters. Priyavrat Fauji (26) and Kashish have been named as the shooters (24). Additional weapons and explosives have been found by the police.
