Lucknow | Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said that his wife Dimple Yadav won’t be contesting the upcoming 2019 general election. The decision is taken by the party to counter the allegations of nepotism (Pariwarwad) against the Party.
Akhilesh Yadav announced that he would contest from Kanauj in place of Dimple Yadav while his father Mulayam Singh will be contesting from Mainpuri and Azamgarh parliamentary constituencies.
“My wife Dimple who is MP from Kannauj will not contest elections now and I would like to contest from her seat in 2019 polls. This is our first step to end allegations of pariwarwad in my party. Now BJP should also end growing nepotism within,” he informed at a public meeting. “If BJP fails to end nepotism then it shouldn’t target us,” he added.
Various Party sources believe that Akhilesh’s decision will have a far-reaching impact as other leaders too will now not be able to seek tickets for their family members in coming and future elections.
